Apartment Review
Don't make the same mistake

I was acquainted with this complex in 2007 when I stayed in my ex-GFs apartment towards the front of the complex for a couple of months. I was skeptical about the area but I never noticed any problems with her two bedroom and she seemed to be ok with it. She eventually moved out that year and we broke up but I was in the market for apartments so figured I'd give this one a try. From the very beginning I had problems. The only reasons I stayed so long were that it is a hassle to move and I didn't want to unless I had to and the management at the time seemed to be doing some things right. I ended up with a unit in the back and noticed right away trash everywhere on the grounds and masses of screaming children running around unattended for hours on end. These would be schoolage children who should be in school but obviously weren't and I had my suspicions that many of the families were illegal aliens. Oh well as long as they didn't bother me. As the years went on, things continued to get worse. I could not enter or leave my unit at any time of day or night without half a dozen or more people constantly watching my every move. Children as well as adults were increasingly loitering around at all hours. People would be just "hanging out" on staircases for hours on end and yet keep staring at you. Eventually, they would start getting right up in your business. People would wonder what I was doing late at night, who the girl was who came over, etc. People were constantly just sitting in vehicles or lounging around in the parking lots doing nothing other than staring which to me is suspicious behavior. Normal people have jobs and don't have time to just linger around. Normal people who do have time fill it with productive things such as reading books or going out, not just camping out in front of your apartment. I had a number of problems with illegal access. Right off the bat, they would put notices saying pest control was coming and I didn't want the spray. These notices were 1-day and not the required 2-day according to state law. I kept constantly asking them not to come in my apartment only to find that someone did come in, screwed around with my electric, and stole a small amount of cash sitting in plain view. I delivered a written notice demanding this stop. It continued to get worse until I was regularly calling 911 to report full-fledged fights in the parking lot, children beating on my walls and windows, throwing rocks at my unit, as well as shutting off my electric and water. Did management do anything? Nope. One day I'm ready to go to work when two, possibly three men knock on my door and I don't answer it. Next thing I know they are breaking into my apartment trying to force the back arcadia door open. So I get a shotgun and run after them. They got away until a month later they did break in and stole all of my guns (luckily I had insurance). Turns out neighbors who witnessed the whole thing did nothing other than call the management instead of the police and the management didn't even call the police. Again, probably because they were illegals. Management says they are going to "cut a deal" and move me to a 2 bedroom towards the front on the second level after the burglary. Weeks go by and they keep saying "it isn't ready yet." Only until I tell them I have found a new place, they suddenly have the new unit ready. The whole point was that I could be on the second level in the corner where nobody would be bothering me. Wrong. Every night from 6pm-11pm there are 5-15 children aged between 10-14 constantly camped out on the staircase and in front of my apartment watching my every move. No parents are around, they are not doing homework, most of them act like wannabe gangbangers, and this one boy and girl about 12 years old each already look like they are going to end up having a baby. Again, management does nothing. Police do nothing. The security gates never work either. Not long after I've moved in, the electric in the unit goes out and the circuit breakers would not reset. It took management two full day and nights before they fixed the electric so I had no power at all and it turns out the circuits were "fried" and could have caused a fire. Last but not least, on Dec. 1 the new Greystar management took over and right away is bullying me around. I never had a problem paying rent on time but for some reason I get a note on Dec. 2 demanding rent even though the lease allows us to pay by the third without late fees. Then I get a 2-day inspection notice. When I confront the new manager, he says that he has the right to snoop around the unit any time a tenant is late on their rent and this will be a "regular thing." I told him he was not coming in there, that this is illegal, and I will call the police. Needless to say, I have broken the lease. If you want an apartment infested with criminals and illegals, people constantly casing your car, unit, and watching your every move, and a property manager bullying you around, then this is the great place to live. If you are someone who has no job, just got out of jail, is on drugs, and has no life, this is a great place to live. Enough said.
