BED BUG INFESTATION -- TWICE IN ONE YEAR
Review Date: 6/12/2010 Reviewer: Anonymous
I moved into Deer Valley Village Apartments in June 2009. In late Oct 2009 (5 months after I moved in), I began to see bed bugs in my apartment. I reported the issue to the property manager and followed the lengthy and intrusive procedure to have the bed bugs removed. For a month during that time, I was unable to stay in the apartment because the bed bugs were still being treated and the chemicals were too strong to stay. I asked the front office if my rent could be credited during that time since I was unable to stay there. I was told that not only wouldn't they credit any of my rent money because "I brought the bed bugs into the apartment" (false accusation) but that if the bugs were not treated within five days I would be evicted. I told them that there was no way I had brought the bed bugs there, and that my apartment had been fine for the first five months I was there, but they refused to take responsibility for the bed bugs, or refund my rent. But I had them treat the bed bugs completely, following their procedure and using their company (Burns Pest Elimination), and was told by them and Burns Pest Elimination that all the bed bugs were now dead. Fast forward to May 2009 (six months later). I began seeing bedbugs AGAIN in the apartment. I called the property manager three times to get someone out to look at them. No one ever returned my calls, but a note was placed on my door saying there would be an inspection done on June 3, 2010. So on June 3, 2010 a note was waiting for me in the apartment that someone had inspected it. No documentation of what was found, no next steps, etc, just that it was inspected. Then on June 9, 2009, another note was left on my door telling me that I had not prepared my apartment for bed bug treatment, and that if it wasn't prepared by June 15 I would be evicted. There was never any communication to me about the outcome of the inspection or what the next steps were. Just more false accusations against me, a complete refusal of them to take ownership of their bed bug problem, no apologies, no offers to refund my rent. PLUS they are now charging me $192.50 for the bed bug treatment. In the meantime, I've had to throw out my bed, my sofa, and my La-Z-Boy chair. This complaint does not even include having the apartment above me flood in August 2009, causing ceiling and flooring damage to my apartment. |
